Eric Bass degli Shinedown debutta con il singolo “Azalia” e annuncia l’album “I Had A Name”
IL NUOVO SINGOLO DI ERIC BASS DEGLI SHINEDOWN
Il cantautore, polistrumentista,produttore e bassista degli Shinedown Eric Bass esce sul mercato con il suo nuovo singolo che si intitola “Azalia” ed tratto dal suo prossimo album solista di debutto I Had A Name che sarà in circolazione dal prossimo 28 Febbraio.
LA STORIA DI AZALIA
“Azalia’ è una delle due protagoniste principali della nostra storia”, ha spiegato Eric. “È un’ex monaca guerriera che ha abbandonato la sua religione per diventare un’assassina. Ha dedicato la sua vita all’insurrezione contro la WAL e la Legione e all’uccisione di ogni funzionario che avesse avuto a che fare con la morte di sua madre”. Continua: “Nella canzone ‘Azalia’ è in fuga per la sua vita con i demoni del governo alle calcagna. Dovrà fare affidamento sulla sua tenacia per non arrendersi e sulle sue capacità naturali per sopravvivere. Le chiavi per farlo sono contenute in un dono che sua madre le ha dato da bambina”.
ERIC BASS E GLI SHINEDOWN
Eric Bass è meglio conosciuto come co-autore, produttore e bassista dell’istituzione rock multiplatino Shinedown, che detiene il record per il maggior numero di singoli al primo posto nella classifica Mainstream Rock di Billboard. A novembre 2024, è uscito”Mind Control”, il singolo apripista di I Had a Name, un lavoro immersivo, espansivo e riccamente tematico. Esperto tanto nei KISS e nei Van Halen quanto nei Pearl Jam e nei Soundgarden, Bass ha riversato in I Had a Name tanta passione e creatività Pensate che la scintilla narrativa iniziale dietro I Had a Name si è accesa proprio in Italia in una stanza d’albergo a Milano, mentre gli Shinedown erano in tour per promuovere Attention Attention del 2018.
“Mi sono seduto sul letto con carta e penna e ho scritto per due ore”, ha raccontato Eric”. Il mio lavoro sì è trasformato nella sinossi per un prequel della storia che racconto nell’album. Quando ho iniziato a scrivere musica, infatti, ho pensato a questi personaggi. L’album non racconta la storia in ordine cronologico, ma raffigura varie scene di essa, frammenti e pezzi che accadono nel corso del tempo”. Come per gran parte di Attention Attention e Planet Zero (il primo numero 1 degli Shinedown nella classifica delle vendite di album di Billboard), I Had a Name guarda sia all’esterno, alla società, sia all’interno, mentre le emozioni più oscure trapelano dalle metafore e dalle trame più significative in superficie.

LA LOTTA CONTRO LA DEPRESSIONE
“Ho già parlato della mia lotta contro la depressione e i problemi neurodivergenti che ho avuto in passato”, ha detto Bass. “Quando ho finito di scrivere questo disco, ho ripensato ai personaggi che ho creato e ho capito di aver scritto il disco più autobiografico della mia vita e che non ne ero cosciente mentre lo scrivevo. L’album è un’odissea epica. Non voglio che la salute mentale sia un “angolo” che lo oscura”, aggiunge. “Ma non mi dispiace parlarne. Ogni volta che ne parlo, spero che sia utile a qualcun altro”. Con il pieno supporto e incoraggiamento dei suoi compagni degli Shinedown, Eric ha sfidato se stesso e ha scritto ogni testo, composto ogni canzone, suonato ogni strumento e prodotto e mixato l’intera prodotto.
I HAD A NAME: UN ALBUM ONESTO
In definitiva, come per ogni impresa nella carriera Eric originario della Carolina del Sud ha commentato: I Had a Name riguarda l’autenticità. “Sono sempre e comunque per l’onestà nell’arte”, dice. “Quando ascolto qualcosa, voglio sentire che la persona che lo ha scritto ha scavato in fondo alle sue emozioni e sofferto perché ciò accadesse. La verità alla fine prevale sempre.”

Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Eric Bass (Shinedown) has shared his new single “Azalia”, taken from his forthcoming debut solo album I Had A Name. Fans can stream the song now here, and watch the brand new music video here.
THE STORY OF AZALIA
“‘Azalia’ is one of the two main protagonists in our story,” explains Eric. “She is a former warrior monk who has thrown off her religion to become an assassin. Dedicating her life to the insurgency against the WAL and Legion, and to killing every official who had anything to do with her mother’s death.”
He continues: “In the song ‘Azalia’ we find her on the run for her life with the government’s demons close behind. She will have to rely on her tenacity in order to not give up, and on her natural abilities to survive. The keys to which are contained within a gift her mother gave her as a child. Eric Bass presents…Azalia.”

ERIC BASS AND SHINEDOWN
Eric Bass is best known as the co-songwriter, producer, and bassist for multiplatinum rock institution Shinedown, who holds the record for most No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. In November 2024, he unveils “Mind Control,” the inaugural single from his debut solo album, slated for release on February 28, 2025. Eric Bass Presents: I Had a Name is an immersive, expansive, and richly thematic work. As well versed in KISS and Van Halen as Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, Bass poured passion and creativity into I Had a Name.
The initial storytelling spark behind I Had a Name ignited in a hotel room in Milan, Italy, as Shinedown toured behind 2018’s Attention Attention. “I sat on the bed with a pen and paper and wrote for two hours. It turned into a synopsis for a prequel to the story I’m telling on the album. When I started writing music, I thought about these characters. The album doesn’t chronologically tell the story, but it depicts various scenes from it – bits and pieces that happen throughout it.”
As with much of Attention Attention and Planet Zero (Shinedown’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Album Sales chart), I Had a Name looks both outward at society and inward, as darker emotions seep out from within the more significant metaphors and storylines on the surface.
THE FIGHT AGAINST DEPRESSION
“I’ve spoken about my struggles with depression and neurodivergent issues before,” Bass points out. “When I finished writing this record, I looked back at these characters I’ve created and realized I’d written the most autobiographical record of my life, which wasn’t conscious as I was writing it.
The album is an epic odyssey. I don’t want mental health to be an ‘angle’ that obscures that”, he adds. “But I don’t mind talking about it. Anytime I talk about it, I hope it’s helpful to someone else.”
With his Shinedown bandmates’ full support and encouragement, Eric challenged himself to write every lyric, compose every song, perform every instrument, and produce and mix the entire affair.
I HAD A NAME: AN HONEST ALBUM
Ultimately, as with every endeavor of the South Carolina native’s career, Eric Bass Presents: I Had a Name is about authenticity. “I’m always about honesty in art,” he says. “When I listen to something, I want to hear that the person dug into the dirt and bled for it to happen. The truth always prevails.”
