La storia e il successo dei The Flower Kings

Quando The Flower Kings hanno suonato il loro primo show il 20 agosto del 1994 non avevano idea che sarebbero andati a lungo avanti a fare musica nel mondo intero. Con il loro 17esimo album, numerosi live album e innumerevoli performance in festival e in tour per tutto il globo, la loro eredità non ha eguali. Ed è stata fondamentale per la rinascita del progressive rock.
Loro rimangono dei titani del melodic prog, con la loro creatività e vitalità. E si piazzano fermamente in quel regno che il loro nome già aveva suggerito trenta anni fa.

Le influenze della musica anni ’60 e ’70

L’album vede in azione i membri originali ovvero Roine Stolt, Hasse Fröberg e Michael Stolt. Con loro la relativamente nuova presenza del batterista campano Mirko DeMaio e di Lalle Larson. Insieme hanno forgiato un album che contiene l’essenza del progressive rock degli ultimi anni ’60 e quello dei primi anni ’70. Questa era è stata caratterizzata dalla dismissione delle regole per ottenere delle hit single come si faceva prima. Ora gli elementi principali erano la creatività con indosso i pantaloni a campana, Mellotron, Moogs, fraseggi e composizioni epiche. The Flower Kings hanno sempre avuto un talento nel mescolare la sensibilità pop con le influenze sperimentali di una jam band.

Ancora rock progressive per la band

Il nuovo album dimostra i “reali” svedesi con una rinnovata sicurezza, che espandono rock progressive che non è secondo a quello di nessuno. La promessa è quella di accompagnare l’ascoltatore in un viaggio negli angoli più nascosti del loro mondo musicale.
I fans della formazione non vedono l’ora di ascoltare di più del lato sperimentale, delle chitarre selvagge e degli assolo di synth reminiscenza dei primi album della band.
Il disco, con una routine di 75 minuti, contiene 12 tracks che vanno dai 3 ai 12 minuti, creati per venire ascoltati come un’entità unica.

The album features the three original members—Roine Stolt, Hasse Fröberg, and Michael Stolt—alongside relative newcomers Mirko DeMaio and Lalle Larsson. Together, they have crafted an album that embodies the essence of progressive rock from the late sixties and early seventies. This era was marked by a departure from the norm of seeking hit singles, embracing creativity with bell-bottoms, Mellotrons, Moogs, phasing, flanging, and epic compositions. TFK have always had a knack for writing songs that blend pop sensibilities with experimental and jam band influences.
