Marc Turiaux degli RPWL: ecco la seconda parte del diario del tour World Through My Eyes 20th Anniversary. Marc ci porta nella magia delle esibizioni della sua band, composta oltre che da lui dal cantante Yogi Lang, dal chitarrista Kalle Wallner e dal bassista Markus Grützner. Tra rock prog, entusiasmo e tanta energia da parte degli RPWL e del pubblico entusiasta che sta affollando il loro tour europeo…

Giorno 9 – Zentrum Altenberg / Oberhausen (D)

Il Zentrum Altenberg si trova in un’ex fabbrica di zinco nel mezzo della Ruhrgebiet. Parecchi ex edifici industriali sono stati trasformati in locali e clubs e l’area è stata adesso è piena di spazi e strutture culturali.
Il Zentrum Altenberg è un edificio in mattoni rossi, una struttura che non lascia dubbi sulla sua vecchia utilizzazione. Abbiamo suonato lì spesso ed è sempre bello ritrovarcisi.Il posto è spazioso, la crew accogliente e professionale. Oberhausen tra l’altro è vicino al confine olandese, quindi anche persone provenienti dai Paesi Bassi
spesso e volentieri lo frequentano. Ancora una volta abbiamo incontrato tanti fan abituali. Ripeto è sempre un piacere essere lì.

Giorno 10 – Logo / Amburgo (D)

Il “Logo” di Amburgo esiste dal 1974 e ha visto molta storia e la presenza di tante bands diventate famose con il tempo e che fecero le loro prime apparizioni ad Amburgo proprio in questo club. C’è un muro di foto al locale
dove si commemorano alcuni eventi storici, questa volta si trattava (tra gli altri) di uno spettacolo degli Oasis nell’agosto 1994, e uno di Wilson Pickett nel gennaio 1983. E tutto questo nonostante ci sia un pilastro ormai storico proprio al centro del palco.
Il Logo ha il soffitto basso e lo stage basso, quindi quando è pieno di gente l’atmosfera raggiunge rapidamente
i livelli di picco. È sempre divertente suonare lì.

Giorno 11 – Maschinenhaus / Berlino (D)

Stasera suoniamo al “Maschinenhaus”. Come a Oberhausen, anche questo club fa parte di un’ex area industriale.
In questo caso si tratta di un vecchio birrificio. L’intero complesso è stato trasformato in un centro culturale e di business. Diversi club, locali, attività commerciali, teatri, sono tutti situati all’interno di questa struttura.
Il Maschinenhaus in particolare si trova al primo piano, quindi caricare la nostra attrezzatura e fargli fare dentro e fuori sarà un’operazione tutt’altro che semplice, un po’ una sfida direi: c’è solo una piccola scala all’ingresso del backstage e non è la prima volta che siamo stati costretti a portare il nostro equipment avanti e indietro,ma con la stanchezza ogni volta la scala sembra diventare più lunga..

Giorno 12 – Blues Garage – Hannover/Isernhagen (D)

Il club è un vero club Blues, penso che siamo una delle pochissime band che suonano regolarmente qui pur facendo un genere diverso. Henry, il proprietario, è un tipo davvero originale. Ha costruito il club più o meno da solo nel corso degli anni
e adesso ne sta già costruendo uno nuovo e più grande. Una scenografia unica (all’angolo del club e su due livelli),luci fioche, il club ha un’atmosfera speciale che
difficilmente trovi da qualche altra parte.

Giorno 13 – AOIA – Łódź (PL)

Ritorniamo finalmente in Polonia. Mi piace sempre suonare lì, la gente è entusiasta e molto supportiva E Łódź non ha certo deluso. Si trattava di un club abbastanza intimo in cui non eravamo mai stati prima. Dato che era vicino al centro città, abbiamo anche avuto la possibilità di fare una breve passeggiata e prendere un caffè fuori dal venue o dal tour bus. Un fuori programma molto gradito dopo quasi due settimane in tour.

Giorno 14 – Zaścianek – Cracovia (PL)

Non è la nostra prima visita a Cracovia, ma questa volta ci esibiamo in un nuovo club. Situato vicino alle residenze degli studenti.
Questo è un locale relativamente nuovo. Purtroppo non abbiamo avuto la possibilità di dare un’occhiata in giro perché è piovuto per la maggior parte del tempo. Lo spettacolo però è stato grandioso, un pubblico entusiasta come sempre in Polonia. Ormai ammetto che cominciamo tutti a sentire la fatica e lo stress di tutti la lunga serie di spettacoli. 14 spettacoli su 15 senza un unico day off.
Domani ultimo stop a Dresda.

Giorno 15 – Tante JU – Dresda (D)

Anche il “Tante JU” è per noi un club nuovo. Il nome del club viene da un classico aereo tedesco da trasporto che si chiamava allo stesso modo. E il locale all’interno è anche un po’ a tema “aereo”. È un posto grande con un palco enorme, quindi ci siamo divertiti molto a suonare lì.

Lo spettacolo è andato bene e quindi abbiamo terminato la lunga serie di concerti di fila alla grande. Roba da non crederci,erano a Parigi esattamente due settimane fa. Chiunque sia mai stato in tour sarà d’accordo: il tempo passa
molto velocemente on the road e una volta che sei in modalità tour, difficilmente riesci a ricordare tutti i posti che hai visitato. Ci vuole un po’ prima che tutti i dettagli ti tornino in mente.
Siamo molto felici di aver portato a termine questo tour senza grossi problemi, incidenti o malattie. Ora abbiamo cinque day off prima di suonare a Frising,la nostra città natale, venerdi prossimo.

17 ottobre. E poi altre due settimane di buco fino all’ultimo show il due novembre a Londra. Ragazzi che posto per concludere l’anno!!!!

Day 9 – Zentrum Altenberg / Oberhausen (D)

Zentrum Altenberg is located in a former zinc factory in the middle of the Ruhrgebiet. Quite a few former industrial buildings is that area have been transformed into cultural spaces and facilities. The Zentrum Altenberg is a res brick building that still shows its former purpose. We have played there often and it’s always good to be there. The place is spacious, the crew welcoming and professional. Oberhausen is still close to the Dutch border, so even people from the Netherlands chose to go there. Once again we met lots of regular fans, always a pleasure to be there.

Day 10 – Logo / Hamburg (D)

The “Logo” in Hamburg exists since 1974. It has seen a lot of history and many now famous bands made their early appearances in Hamburg in that club. There is a photo wall in the club where they commemorate certain historic events, this time it was (among others) a show by Oasis in August 1994, or one by Wilson Pickett in January 1983. And all of that although they have a famous pillar right in the middle of the stage. The club has a low ceiling and stage, so when it’s full of people the atmosphere quickly reaches peak level. Always fun to play there.

Day 11 – Maschinenhaus / Berlin (D)

We play at the “Maschinenhaus”. Like in Oberhausen, this is also part of a former industrial complex, this time of an old brewery. The whole complex has been transformed into a center culture and business. Different clubs, venues, businesses, theater – all located within the premises.
The Maschinenhaus itself is located on the first floor, so loading our equipment in and out will be a bit of a challenge: there is only one small staircase as the backstage entrance. Not the first time we had to carry our gear up and down, but every the stair case seems to get longer.

Day 12 – Blues Garage – Hannover/Isernhagen (D)

The club is a true Blues club, I think we are one of the very few regular bands there that play a different genre. Henry, the owner, is a true original. He built the club more or less himself over the years – and he is already building a new and bigger one. A unique stage design (in the corner of the club and on two levels), sparse lighting – the club has a special atmosphere that you will hardly find anywhere else.

Day 13 – AOIA – Łódź (PL)

Finally going back to Poland. I always love playing there, the people are enthusiastic and always supportive. And Łódź didn’t disappoint. It was a relatively intimate club that we had never been to before. Since it was close to the city center we even had the chance to take a short walk and have a coffee outside of either the venue or the tour bus. A very welcome change after almost two weeks on tour.

Day 14 – Zaścianek – Krakow (PL)

Not our first visit to Krakow, but a new club this time. Located close to the students’ residences, this is a relatively new club. Unfortunately we didn’t have the chance to take a look around (it was also raining most of the time). The show itself was great, an enthusiastic audience as always in Poland. We all feel the long stretch of shows by now, this was show 14 out of 15 without a day off.
Last stop Dresden tomorrow.

Day 15 – Tante JU – Dresden (D)

The “Tante JU” is also a new club for us. The club’s name comes from a classic German transport plane that was nicknamed the same way. Inside the venue you can see that it is slightly plane themed as well. A it’s quite a big club with a huge stage, so we had a lot of fun playing there. The show was good and so we finished the long stretch of concerts in a row. We can’t believe we were in Paris exactly two weeks ago. Everyone who was ever touring will agree: time passes by really quickly and once you are in full tour mode, you can hardly remember all the places you have visited. It takes a while until all the details come back.

We are very happy to have pulled through this tour without any bigger problems, accidents or serious illness. Now we have five days off until we play our hometown show in Freising on Friday,

RPWL coming to London

October 17th. And then two more weeks until the last show of the tour in London on November 2nd. What a place to end the year!!!!
